Dwight Rix's new trike project

This trike is being built from a 1995 Buick 3.8 fuel injected V6 engine with an automatic transmission. Dwight, the owner of this build, with his education in being a design engineer contributed his ideas by provided drawings/sketches to include many of the areas of the build such as the rear suspension and hydraulic lift and rotation. The lift has two controls, one that can be operated from the platform and one on the rear right side, just in front of the rear tire, allowing the operator to bring the platform out for loading and to return it for parking. The lift is operated hydraulically and the rotation is operated by a electric actuator. Dwight started the engine in this trike for the first time on 01/25/2011. One of the interesting challenges with this project was the computer system and the particular year of car for the ignition key had a chip in it that had to be recognized by the computer before it would start. Dwight went on-line and found a small electronic unit that successfully by-passed that chip. Tim Finn a team player with Premier Trikes, Inc., successfully worked out the wiring issues that dealt with the computer. Still facing a few minor challenges but clearly we’re on the downhill side of the build.
There is another story behind this trike. It's Dwight's heart desire to leave a legacy for others that are physically challenged, showing that they can work around their handicaps and enjoy life to it's fullest. Dwight and his wife are both excited, looking forward in riding with the Open Prairie Trikers, their local BTW chapter as well as adding a few other trips of adventure.
